First Aid at Work (Statutory Certificate)
Comprehensive four-day HSE certificated course for employees designated as workplace First Aiders. Covers all essential areas of Life Support and First Aid necessary in the initial overall management of casualties and pre-hospital care situations.

First Aid Training for Journalists

First Aid at Work Refresher (Statutory Certificate)
Two-day requalification course for workplace First Aiders. Reviews and updates original course material on advances in techniques and changes in legislation.

Emergency First Aid (Appointed Persons Course)
One-day Basic Life Support Training course for employees designated as "Appointed Persons". Concentrates on resuscitation skills and techniques to stabilise a casualty prior to the arrival of medial aid.

Automatic Defibrillation Training
A one-day course in the use of Automatic Electronic Defibrillators. (Candidates must have statutory certificates.)

Paediatric (Child) Life Support Training
A one-day course for anyone who is caring for a child. Child carers, mothers, fathers and other family members.

Hyperbaric Medicine
Courses run in conjunction with the London Hyperbaric Unit. These courses are designed for use in compressed air tunnelling and the diving industry, specialist hostile environment training.

Diving (Hyperbaric) First Aid Training
A four-day course for commercial air/gas divers and sports divers. Relates practical Life Support skills to incidents at the dive site and includes essential instruction in relevant diving medicine, specialist hostile environment training. Training will be held at Whipp’s Cross Hyperbaric Unit from April 2001.

Rescue Team Training
Two-day team training course for First Aiders working in potentially hazardous areas such as construction and tunnelling sites. Includes emergency life support techniques utilising available resources and rescue equipment. Hostile Environment Training.

Trauma Management in Rural Areas
Casualty stabilisation and evacuation course for operatives working in hostile or rural environments (e.g. security personnel, combat zone news gatherers). Hostile Environment Training. Emphasises personal safety measures, self-help and the management of casualties with severe trauma such as ballistic or blast injury. (Candidates must have a statutory certificate.)

Specific Hazard
A course individually designed to focus on specific hazards in the workplace, such as chemical, environment and vehicular. This course should be held on site in order to add realism to the potential hazard. (Candidates must have a statutory certificate or appointed persons certificate.) Hostile Environment Training.

Expedition Medicine
This course is designed for groups working overseas, who may encounter anything from road traffic accidents to altitude sickness, hypothermia to envenomation. This course is designed around the client’s risk assessment.

Manual Handling
A one-day course in line with current legislation, concentrating on the assessment and safe execution of manual handling tasks. Courses are designed to the customer’s requirements and are ideally conducted on site.

Oxygen Administration
One-day certificated course for First Aiders who may be required to use oxygen resuscitation equipment in dealing with a casualty incident. Includes airway management, resuscitation and the theory and use of oxygen.

Fire Marshal Training
One-day course to cover new safety legislation, encompassing fire risk assessment as required by the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997.

Risk Assessment
A programme to help highlight the hazards and risks in the workplace. A one-day course to help individuals with their own risk assessment portfolios.

Health and Safety Consultancy Service
Health and Safety Management Consultancy. This service is designed to help develop organisational competence in Health & Safety Management.

All course fees are inclusive of course manuals, final assessments, certification, refreshments and update services.

First Action will automatically inform you in writing within four months when your refresher course is due.
